What Causes Blemishes?
Usually, blemishes begin at puberty and is gone by the early 20s. In some cases, blemishes may persist into adulthood. Such types of blemishes include more severe forms that affect the body as well as the face.
In other cases, blemishes may not appear until adulthood. Adult acne is more common in women then men.
There are several reasons for this. As females get older, their hormones change which may dispose sebaceous glands to develop blemishes. Pregnancy may also cause hormonal changes that produce blemishes.
Some women get acne when they either stop using birth control pills. Sometimes women may wear cosmetics that may clog their pores, thus increasing their risk to get blemishes.
Blemishes are very embarassing for everybody. We are all put in social situations - school, work and community - and having blemishes is not only embarassing, but it also has a negative effect on our confidence.
